I go to a website called Bible Study Toolscom, Bible Study Toolscom, and then, after you get set up, it takes a few minutes, you go down under Bible, you go to the reading plans and then you go down under the classic reading plan and every day it lets it'll bring up your old testament scripture, New Testament scripture and a psalm and then a proverb. So that's what I do every day because what it does is you're able to check off each day to make sure that you stay on task. On today's podcast we're going to eventually get to genesis twenty four, but before we do that there's a couple of scriptures that came to my mind and in my heart. I am a political writer during the day, so I'm immersed in what's going on locally in Ashley and Ashley and so when you when you see what's going on with the world, and then you start to look around and see, okay, what if I did some stories on the church in politics? And then you start to see numerous, quote unquote, pastures falling Christians that are on these social media platforms. Friend of mine said he's on Tick Tock and they got Christians on their defending abortion and all these crazy it's just it member in the end to be a falling away of the faith. So over in Galatians eighteen, Paul's writing and he says, but if you are led by the Holy Spirit, you're not under the law. So Christ followers. You're not under the law because Paul was talking about the old system. You'll covenant. He said in Verse Nineteen, the acts of the flesh are obvious, and aren't they? Sins are pretty obvious. He listed some out. Sexual Morality. That could be premarital sex, that could be adult tree, that could be homosexual activity whatever. So Home Sexual Im morality and purity, debauchery, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, discord, jealousy, fits a rage, selfish ambition, douctions and be drunkenness or Geez in the like. And he said I warned you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the Kingdom of God. I have a poem we're going to go over at the end about dying, but it's a glorious one and it's it's it's like it over a hundred years old, but it it describes how the living look at getting older and dying and then those in the kingdom waiting for people to come and join them. So there's this double view that's taking place as we get older. But verse twenty two, the Bible talks about fruit. So a good tree should bear a good good tree should bear good fruit. So the these are this is some of the fruit that should be available and visible for those that are true Christ followers. But the fruit of the Holy Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering for bearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have been crucified with its passions and desires. As we walk with the Lord individually and as we're around people that claim to be Christ followers, then there should be some of this fruit. If you're around people that all their fruit is wicked, bad fruit, if you don't see any love, any joy, any peace, any kindness, any goodness, any faithfulness, they're not gentle at all the rough and and self and they have no self control. And you watch them and they're not they're not repenting and they're not changing. And there and there, if there's no fruit, then there's probably no salvation. But now here's a good news. If you over in Romans eight Paul's talk, saying in verse one for Christ followers who do have the fruit of the spirit, doesn't mean you're perfect, doesn't mean we're not going to have temper issues at times. We're going to fall at times. But if your life, in my life, should be more and more changing through sanctification to be more Christ like in our manners, in our life and our prayer life and our hatred of sin, so Paul said in Romans A. Therefore, for people that are like that are called Christ followers or Christians, there's now no condemnation for them. For those who are in Christ Jesus, the world is there's the people in the church, or some people are falling away and there's false ministries. But if you're in Christ, you've been born from above. You love the word of God, you love God's people, you want the best for people. There's no condemnation. So if you ever feel condemned in your mind from the spiritual world, correction comes and conviction comes from God. Condemnation comes from Satan. If you're not a Christian, if you are a pagan and you love to live the way that your flesh wants to live, not only are you going to be condemned by the evil one, you also will eventually be condemned by the creator of the universe. But for those of us who are in Christ Jesus, there's no condemnation because through Christ, Jesus, the law of the spirit has set us free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own son, Jesus, Christ, in the likeness of sinful flesh, to be a sin offering, a propitiation, a perfect sinless lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world. This poem I'm going to read now and then we'll go to our chapter. This one was written and my wife sent it to me, so let me give this was written a first appeared in the northwestern Christian advocate in nineteen o four Reverend Luther Beecher, Baptist minister. So here we go. What is dying? I'm standing on the sea shore and a ship sails in the morning breeze and starts for the ocean. She is an object of beauty and I stand watching her till the last. She fades on the horizon and someone at my side says she's gone, gone where? Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in the mast whole and spars as she was when I first saw her. She's just as able to bear her load and of living freight to its destination. that a minish size. The total loss of sights is in me, not in her. And just at that moment when someone is at my side says she is gone, there are others who are watching her coming and other voices take up a glad shout. There she comes. That is dying. We are here for a moment, where a vapor, but as we're as Christ followers. Paul said to die is to gain to bad. Absent from this body is to be present with the Lord. We're here to make much of Christ, to pre share the Gospel and to bless people, and then we go home. I just think that's a cool story, that that as as we get older and we get fearful of dying, once we once we go, then the people on her say they're going, they're going, they're gone at the same second and the other side and glory, here they come, here they come, here they come. That's why there's no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus, because she, Jesus, has gone away to prepare a place for us and since he's done that, he will come back and get us. And now Abraham in in Chapter Twenty Four. He's very old and he's been blessed, but he's actually worried about who his son that remember he had when he was a hundred, whose eyes it going to marry to continue the lineage. And so he calls in his senior servant and he said, Hey, I need you to swear by the Lord, the God of Heaven and earth, that you're not going to get a wife from here. But the MOABITES and ammonites and all of the Philistines and all the people living in Canaan at the time, you're not going to get away from here, if you remember. Well, later on you're going to Esau, is going to purposely marry women from the land to make Isaac Mad. But that's a whole nother or a whole nother story there. The Servant says, well, okay, I'll do that. I will not take a son from here. Will then what am I supposed to do? And Abra says, well, I want you to go to Myke, the country where I came from, land, the or of the Chaldeans, southern Iraq. I want you to go and get a get a relative, get a wife from my relatives for Isaac. That's quite a journey. So the servant asks them reverse five. What if the woman's not willing to come back, should I take Isaac back there? Good question, right, and Abraham says, make sure you do not take my son back there, because the Lord, the God of Heaven, who brought me out of my father's household back there in my native land and who spoke to me and he promised me, and no saying to your offspring, I give this land Canan, which is Israel. Then this is what he says to his servant. God will send his angel before you so that you will get a wife, or you can get a wife from my son. But if the woman's unwilling to come back, your release from the oath. Just do not take my son back there. He said it twice. Do Not Take my sun back there, because he did. He wouldn't want his sound to leave. The promise, the blessing that God had through a covenant made with Abraham. So the servant packed up to ten camels. We made the promise. Okay, a lot of good. He's with him and here's our first point. Number One. Well, besides Abraham by faith, believing that God was going to make this work. So other Abraham had a lot of moments of faith. But his servant, when he gets toward Abraham's town, Nay, and down on Nahor, he had the camels need a kneel down outside the by the well outside the town and the women were coming out to draw water, and then so he prayed. So Abraham sent him out in faith and angels going to go before you to be successful. But but the first thing that I get out of this is when God, when God moves, and you're in the situation, then just make sure that you're were relying on God. So he says in Verse Twelve, Servant Pray, Lord, God of my master Abraham, make me successful. Why? Why did God? Because he wanted to bless Abrahm. He wanted it to bless his master. He wanted to bless Abraham. Not for God to make me successful so people can see how spiritual I am or how connected I am with you or how you love me so much. No, he said, made me successful today and show kindness to my master Abraham. You said, Lord, see I'm standing. Besides this spring and there's daughters of the townspeople coming out to draw water. May It be, Lord, please, may it be that when a young woman, when I say to her, please let down your jar that I may have a drink, and she said, and she's going to say, drink and I will water your camels to let her be the one. You've chosen, fear Servant Isaac. By this I will know that you've shown kindness to WHO, to my master. I say this a lot, but I'm convinced, at fifty four years of age and walking with the Lord a long time, humility is a main ingredient in the rest of be of being a Christweller, greater to give than to receive. So the servants, I Laura, please bless Abraham. Please this girl. have her be the one to bless Isaac, please, Lord. So before even in Finnish praying, God said, okay, Rebecca was compelled by God. Okay, time to go get the water. So I'll she goes down, because God works a lot of things out and we never know it. So Rebecca comes out and she happens to be the daughter of Bethuel, the son of Milka, who was the wife of Abraham's brother, remember, had to be from Abraham's family. And Rebecca, a beautiful virgin from Abraham's family, happens to be the one that the servant says, please give me a drink, because in verse sixteen it says the woman was very beautiful, a virgin. No Man, that's up with her. She went down to the spring, filled her jar up and came up again in the servant hurting and said, please give me a little water from your jar. The moment of truth and she said, Lord, drink and and quickly she lowered the jar to her hands and gave him a drink. After she gave him a drink, she said I'll water your camels to until they've had enough to drink. And without saying a word, the servant watched her closely to learn whether or not the Lord had made his journey successful. So now it's time to find out when the camels are finished drinking. The man bowed down and worshiped. You say, Oh, I did it right and I I walked the right way and I said the right things. He said, no, it bout on a work tip. In Verse Twenty Seven, he said, praise be to the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who has not abandoned his kindness and faithfulness to my master. As for me, the Lord has led me on the journey to the House of my father's relatives. So what the narrative goes here now? So they go back Laban, her brother, and he's got to decide if Rebecca can go with Abraham's master. So the conversations go something like this. Okay, what brings you all way out here, servant? Well, my Lord Abraham is wealthy, very blessed and he has a son from Sarah and he wants he wants him to marry someone from your family. Is like, well, okay, I see the nose ring and the bracelets and all these camels. So there's a lot, there's a big dowry, there's a lot there. So okay, sure, I don't have a problem with that. But then what happens when it's time to actually leave? They kind of get cold feet the mom and in Laban and it's like, well, I don't know, let's ask. Let's ask Rebecca if she'll go. So they bring her out. Rebecca, will you go with this man? I will go, she said. So they sent their sister, Rebecca, on the way, along with her nurse and Abraham's servants and his men, and they blessed her, saying Oh, sister, may you increase the thousands upon thousands, may your offspring possessed the cities of their enemies. So they get on the camels. They're heading back. Isaac is getting back into the camp area and he goes out in the evening to meditate and pray and he looks up and there's camels are approaching and Rebecca looks up and sees Isaac. She gets down and says, who is at? That is my that's my master. She covered her face with their veil and the servant told Isaac all he had done so he brought her into the tent of his mother Sarah, married her and he loved his wife, Rebecca, and he was comforted after the death of his mother Sarah. Prayer is elevating God, making much of the cross, praying for what is on your heart and if it's in God's plan, because he works everything out according to the council, of his own will, and it's going to it's going to serve the better, is going to serve the purpose of the kingdom, than God will do miraculous things sometimes and sometimes, like in that poem, God will not, because through our suffering, sometimes God is glorified, because our life is a vapor and it comes down to we're here for a short season and then we are spending eternity with the loving God. Our flesh says, hold onto this life, don't die, you must stay here. It is terrifying, just live fearful. But no, it's our heart of worship, it is our humility, it is our love for people, it is being available for God's purposes and it is to it's to live peaceably with men as lights in darkness, making much of Jesus prepared to share the Gospel Day by day, give us today our daily bread. It's not about us. And the sooner we figure that out in the sooner we see how Abraham Servant was blessed and we see that he blessed the Lord in the middle of God blessing his servant and Isaac, then we understand in the end and this whole story, God kept his covenant with Abraham. People were blessed because of obedience and Isaac was comforted. In the end, Abraham was blessed. It didn't have to worry about who Isaac was going to marry and Isaac was blessed and it's all for God's glory in the end. In the last days there will be difficult that will become times of difficulty, for people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, prayer, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to the parents, on Godly, on Holy, heartless and peasable, slanderous, without self control. Again, member, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. I just pray that we all stay focused on the cross. Jesus said if you, if you make much of the cross, if you lift up the cross to people, he'll draw people unto himself. Our prayer is that God would bless us, would help us do our tough times, would encourage us, would challenge us, because he brews war twelve that we normally cover. The word of God is living in powerful, sharper than any two edged. So were piercing evening of the soul and spirit of joint and Moraw.
